City, sand and the fishing beach

Nouakchott grew from a small settlement into a capital in a single generation, built on sand at the desert's Atlantic edge. The fishing beach is one of the most vivid daily scenes in West Africa.

What success looks like

A careful fragment holds the improvised growth of the city and the labour of the fishery, with consent for any identifiable people.

For whom?

Who is seen as colour and who is doing the labour in the frame?

By whom?

Record one sound that carries the economy of this coast.

“A capital can be a generation old and still feel ancient.”
Counter-Atlas note
“Keep faces private unless consent is clear.”
