Provocation

What does it mean to record a city that already records itself so powerfully?

Field log

Collaborate: ask one person met here what they would want a passing archive to notice.

Route scaffolds: images and sound seeds↓

These are route scaffolds, not confirmed stops. Each point holds a Wikimedia image slot, a Freesound query and a blog prompt so the road can replace the estimate with lived material.

Cape, city and the turn inland

Dakar, on the westernmost cape of the African mainland, is the Atlantic hinge of the route before it turns inland. It is a major cultural centre, with Gorée and its memory of the slave trade close offshore.

What success looks like

A careful fragment lets the city's cultural life and its hard histories sit together, rather than choosing one as the story.

For whom?

Who already tells this city's story, and how can the archive defer to them?

By whom?

Record one fragment made with someone, not only about them.

“The most documented cities still have their own terms.”
Counter-Atlas note
“Sometimes the strongest method is to ask, not to take.”
